Ethylene oxide

Ethylene oxide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H4O that was formerly used to make fungicides.

 

Ethylene oxide is used in the manufacture of other chemicals, primarily ethylene glycol. It is secondarily used in the production of downstream products such as ethoxylates, ethanolamines, glycol ethers, ethylideneamines, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose, choline chloride, glyoxal, and vinyl carbonate. It can also be used in the manufacture of synthetic detergents, nonionic surfactants, antifreeze, emulsifiers, and glycol-containing products, as well as in the production of plasticizers, lubricants, rubber and plastics. It is widely used in many fields such as washing and dyeing, electronics, medicine, pesticide, textile, paper making, automobile, petroleum mining and refining.
